Editorial Standards

Accuracy matters when the topic is your financial future. Here is how we create, review, and maintain the content on this site.

Who Writes Our Content

Every page on Living Prepared is written by a member of our team with direct professional experience in insurance, annuities, tax planning, or wealth management. Our writers hold credentials including:

  • CFA® (Chartered Financial Analyst) charter, awarded by the CFA Institute
  • CFP® (CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™) certification, awarded by the CFP Board
  • EA (Enrolled Agent) designation, authorized by the IRS
  • M&A experience at Goldman Sachs, Credit Suisse, and other global institutions

Every article identifies its author and reviewer by name, with a link to their profile page, so you can verify their credentials directly.

Our Review Process

No content page is published without a two-person review:

  1. Author drafts. A team member with subject-matter expertise writes the initial content, including all factual claims, source citations, and recommendations.
  2. Peer review. A second team member reviews the content for factual accuracy, clarity, completeness, and consistency with our planning philosophy.
  3. Compliance check. Where applicable, content is reviewed for regulatory accuracy, including proper use of designations, accurate descriptions of product mechanics, and correct regulatory disclosures.

How We Verify Facts

We use only official, defensible statistics from named sources. Our approved source categories include:

  • Government agencies: IRS, Department of Labor, CMS, state Departments of Insurance
  • Industry research: LIMRA, NAIC, American Council of Life Insurers (ACLI)
  • Court decisions: Supreme Court rulings (e.g., Connelly v. United States), state appellate decisions
  • Carrier documentation: official product guides, rate filings, policy contracts
  • Academic and actuarial research: published studies from credentialed researchers

We do not cite unnamed sources, marketing materials from carriers, or unverifiable statistics. Every factual claim on this site can be traced to a named, verifiable source.

How Often We Update Content

Our content follows a structured update cycle:

  • Quarterly review: every content page is reviewed at least once per quarter for continued accuracy
  • Immediate updates: regulatory changes, new court rulings, or tax law changes trigger an immediate review and update of affected pages
  • Date stamps: every article shows a "Last updated" date so you know how current the information is

How to Report an Error

We will investigate and update within 48 business hours (excluding weekends and national holidays) if a correction is warranted.
